Homer, AK and Homer Spit

8/17/14
We had about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Kenai to Homer which took us along the bluffs of the Kenai Peninsula overlooking the ocean just about the whole time. It was unbelievable to see how beautiful the natural landscape is with all the tall trees, green grasses and wild flowers growing everywhere along the road, which is common in Alaska, but the added ocean views and simple homes on the bluff really made it feel like it was fake and from a movie.

Guy at rest view rest stop playing music
Grace learned to fish tail while we drove and also learned to french braid and I was her model head of hair (OUCH!!)
Road to Homer Spit, which in case you don't know what that is, it's basically a VERY narrow strip of land off of the Kenai Peninsula in the small town of Homer that's about 4 miles long.
Found ANOTHER awesome campground at the end of the spit right on the beach!!!
Kids tried their courage by going in the very cold water!

As for me, just my feet!
Found quite a few jelly fish stranded on the beach (temporarily until high tide said our friend Gary that we met on the beach who gave us some "local" insight) Grace was terrified of the Jelly fish btw!
These pictures were taken before we met Gary and thought the jelly fish were dead...
Kids were frozen solid after going in water and wanted to change clothes but we couldn't break Chuck away from Gary to unlock rv so grace climbed through the window lol
Took a walk through town for some pictures and shopping
Met a new friend named L.B. who was a tough looking Harley riding older man who worked at the Salty Dawg Saloon and was also a photographer haha. Super nice guy, took this pic for us and told us "in Alaska when we are talking about how long it takes to get somewhere we don't talk in miles we talk in hours"...
Also met a shop owner named Caroline who Gwen bought a wolf tooth necklace off of and we told her how Gwen loves wolves and we were hoping to see them at Denali but didn't and then she pulled out a professional picture of a wolf taken in Denali that she had in stock and told Gwen she could have it! People in Alaska are so nice!
Back at the campground..
9pm at campground...

Commercial fishing boat (Homer is a big fishing town) also 9pm

A glacier in the distance

10pm
Glacier again in distance 10pm
Lastly I have to mention the sign we saw driving up today in front of someone's driveway that was spray painted on a large piece of cardboard that looked like what would be a garage sale sign in California, but it read "DAY SALE! GUNS FOR SALE!"
Wish I had gotten a pic! Only in Alaska!!
